Section 1: Report
The Malatya Police Department unlawfully took the unofficial statements of two female factory workers on Tuesday, according to the Malatya Security Directorate. The husbands of one of the women and the father of the other, who are both members of the United Textile, Weaving, and Leather Workers Union (BİRTEK-SEN), were asked to go to the police station together, stating that they needed to give a statement. The police officers told the women that they were called for a “warning” related to “terrorist activities” due to their lawsuits against the factory that fired them for their union activities. The women, who thought it would be a statement regarding their lawsuits, were held arbitrarily at the police station for nearly four hours. They were also interviewed with their families in separate rooms, and pressure was applied to their families by telling them to “prevent” the women from engaging in union
