German Cultural Center/Goethe Institute Ankara Employees Protest Employer’s Refusal to Engage in Collective Bargaining

Tez-Koop-İş has organized and completed the necessary legal applications to initiate the collective bargaining process. Employees of the German Cultural Center/Goethe Institute in Ankara protested against the employer’s refusal to participate in collective bargaining through a press statement in front of the workplace. The President of Ankara Branch No. 3, Cemal Yarga, stated that after receiving the authorization certificate, the union prepared a collective bargaining agreement proposal within the specified legal periods and sent it to the employer. However, the employer did not accept the proposal as a reaction to the unionization of its employees. The employer also did not attend the two meetings where the mediator appointed through İŞKUR called the parties. Cemal Yarga emphasized that the collective bargaining agreement process was exhausted before negotiations could take place due to the strict attitude of the employer. He warned that if the employer does not recognize Turkish law and the union and does not participate in the collective bargaining process, a strike will be declared. Yarga stated that the rights of the union members will be defended at both the national and international levels. Despite warnings from the central human resources in Munich, the management of the German Cultural Center/Goethe Institute Ankara has not taken any action yet. The employer’s attitude was protested with applause and whistles, and slogans supporting the union and workers’ unity were shouted.
