Ankara’s Altindag district witnessed a tragic incident where a 13-year-old boy named Harun Yildiz, who was working as an apprentice in an auto repair shop, was killed when a freight elevator fell on him. The incident prompted an immediate response from health and police teams who arrived at the scene after being notified by the locals. Yildiz’s lifeless body was taken to the morgue by the Forensic Medicine Institute. The prosecutor’s office initiated a comprehensive investigation into the incident. It was discovered that Yildiz’s hometown was Van, and he would be buried there.
According to a witness named Veli Ates, who is a tradesman, Yildiz had been missing for nearly three hours before they found him trapped in the elevator shaft. Some claim that his head was severed, resulting in a scene filled with blood. Ates expressed his sadness and emphasized that child labor is prevalent in many shops, urging against exposing young children to such dangerous work environments.
In relation to the death of Harun Yildiz, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation and detained the business owners İ.Ç. and K.C. The suspects were taken to the court after being processed at the police station. During the interrogations, the suspects claimed that Yildiz was not an employee at the workplace but had come to visit a relative who was working there. They also stated that all maintenance and checks of the elevator had been carried out, and there was no problem. However, they were arrested for the crime of “causing death by negligence.”
